A tasting menu to remember @ One Twenty One Two !

One Twenty One Two, the dedicated restaurant of the Royal HorseGuards Hotel, headed by the wonderful Chef Ben Purton with it’s two AA Rosettes is one of the most desirable restaurants of London for me.

From the décor, the service to the food, everything is perfection ! I truly recommend you to try the Tasting menu for £75 comprising a selection of seasonal dishes (wine pairing also available).

We started our tasting menu by a sweet potato and truffle veloute which was full of flavour yet very light with a hint of cinnamon on top – paired with Vina Esmeralda, Bodegas torres, Spain 2012.

An oak smoked duck with apple puree with the best pickled vegetables (obviously made in house!) – paired with Fortius Rosado, Spain 2011, followed by the most delicious pan seared and Atlantic scallops – paired with a Chablis, Defaix, France 2011.

I found the One Twenty One Two tasting menu very interesting and different from the usual tasting menus offered where Chefs believe dinners must be fed extremely rich products to a point of sickness ! This tasting menu was offering fresh, light yet noble products.

A blood orange sorbet to cleanse our palets and a delightful Cornish sukler, dry aged beef (Amen!) with buttered asparagus, baby onions and wild mushrooms was served to us.  Absolutely wonderful with a full depth of flavours and tenderness this meat dish was an absolute winner for me !

Can I just say, Chef Ben, you are welcome any time in my kitchen to make this dish again for me !

It is now no secret I worship the Pastry Team at The Royal Horseguards hotel (Read my review on the Mad Hatter Afternoon tea) so when the desserts arrived, no need to tell you I was in for a treat… Removing his hands carefully and rather quickly the waiter delighted me with a surprise pre-dessert from the team, a Tahitian vanilla panacotta, British berry consume, strawberry lava and fillo crisp.

And to finish on a fresh and sweet note the extravagant charred Cantaloupe melon, nougat and edelweiss chocolate Chantilly, hazelnut praline, orange and blossom honey drizzle paired with a fantastic Muscat Beaume de Venise, France. The level of execution of those desserts were fantastic, a true piece of art.

Top tip : Head of the Equus Bar before dinner for a glass of Rose Laurent Perrier… a romantic and stylish bar, perfect for starting a wonderful evening of culinary degustation at One Twenty One Two.
