I have never been one for the big hotels and big chains, however, the Park Hyatt Chicago changed my mind very quickly on the matter… I suppose it is about finding the right brand and the right hotel in the right city ?!
The Park Hyatt Chicago is located on North Michigan Avenue within the “Mag Mile” the most prestigious area of the city with a profusion of designer shops, theatres, restaurants, luxury hotels and magnificent buildings. Walk left past the hotel and within 5min you will be able to admire the impressive Lake Michigan.
I stayed in a Park King Standard Room…nothing Standard for us coming from Europe, the room was huge : 550-square-foot room. The décor was sleek and everything was super practical (lots of plugs, big TV screen, WIFI, a desk). However, it missed a bit of a feminine touch to the décor and amenities, the magazines in display were really targeting a man audience and the colours are quiet manly too…
The one king-sized Simmons Beautyrest Park Hyatt bed was to die for, the huge pillows after the long flight were a gift coming down from heaven, I slept perfectly.
The added bonus : a huge bath facing the room and the tv with some salt bath as amenities, so sweet, and don’t let me start on the large walk-in shower.
The views over the city and the Chicago Water Tower are impressive but even more while enjoying breakfast at NoMi Restaurant. I genuinely loved the service and the atmosphere at the restaurant, I felt really at home and so looked after although I was mostly on my own (except once for dinner with a group of friends)
I booked myself in at NoMi Spa, you know me, I would never miss any opportunity to wonder in that part of the hotel, especially after a 8 hours flight and 6 hours time difference ! My bespoke massage was amazing but sadly my mani/pedi was a bit more of a disaster… at $300 for the treatments, it was a bit of a disappointment (I did mention it to the Receptionist but no action was taken..).
If only I did not “forgot” my gym outfit I would have enjoyed the techno gym, but I went instead to the sauna and the pool to relax, which I highly recommend you as it was empty most of the time I went.
Overall, I had a wonderful stay at the Park Hyatt Chicago and I would highly recommend it. Watch out for the rates…it can be impressive too. I loved that the Park Hyatt picked up on my tweet and offered assistance.
